International Gator Day Recap: Cleaning Up Carson Beach

On Saturday, May 10, the New England Gator Club® joined Gators around the globe for the 25th Annual International Gator Day, a day of service that unites the Gator Nation® in giving back to our local communities.

This year, our Boston-area effort brought us to Carson Beach, where we teamed up with Boston Harbor Now, Boston Cares, and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department for a waterfront cleanup. Although originally scheduled for Moakley Park, our group was redirected across the street to Carson Beach, one of Boston’s most beloved public shorelines.

Despite the rain, the energy was high and the vibe upbeat. Our club contributed six volunteers (three board members, and three familiar faces from past events) to a larger group of around 30 community members. Armed with gloves, trash grabbers, and good spirits, we worked together to help keep the beach clean and safe for everyone.

🧤 What We Found

The debris we collected ranged from the expected (food wrappers, plastic bottle caps, and can rings) to the more concerning, like discarded nip bottles and even a couple of needles. It was a sobering reminder of why this work matters. Several passersby paused to thank us, and our partners expressed appreciation for the extra hands and Gator energy.

💙 Why We Do It

As an official Gator Club®, participating in International Gator Day is part of our mission—but more than that, it’s a chance to connect with each other and make a visible impact in our city. Whether you’re a lifelong Bostonian or new to the area, helping to maintain our shared public spaces is a small way to give back with big results.
