Celebrate Resilience with the UF First-Gen Alumni Association

Hey, Gators!

I wanted to take a moment to share a special event coming up that’s near to my heart. As many of you know, I was a first-generation student myself, and I know firsthand the challenges and triumphs that come with being the first in your family to navigate college.

That’s why I’m excited to share that the UF First-Gen Alumni Association (FGAA) is hosting their inaugural First-Generation Giving Gala on November 14th from 6:30-9:30pm at the Richard Taittinger Gallery in NYC. This event promises to be an incredible evening of community, culture, and connection—all in support of first-generation students and alumni.

An Evening Rooted in Resilience

This year’s theme, “Rooted in Resilience,” couldn’t be more fitting. It’s a celebration of the strength, perseverance, and spirit of first-generation Gators everywhere. From personal experience, I can say that being a first-gen student requires grit and determination. It’s amazing to see this community continue to grow and thrive, thanks in part to efforts like FGAA’s gala.

The evening will be a mix of art, food, and culture, including curated works from underrepresented and minority artists, some of which will be available for purchase (with 10% of the proceeds going toward FGAA initiatives). I think this partnership with the gallery is such a great touch—it really speaks to the diversity and creativity of our community.

Plus, the culinary experience is something to look forward to! With food and drinks inspired by different cultures, there will be plenty to indulge in while celebrating with fellow Gators.

A Night to Make a Difference

What makes this event even more special is the impact it will have. By attending, not only are you in for a memorable evening, but you’re also supporting FGAA’s initiatives, which help first-generation students and alumni succeed. The funds raised will go directly towards scholarships and other important programs that provide opportunities for students like I once was.

For those of you in the New England area (or even beyond!), I encourage you to make the trip if you can—it’s going to be an unforgettable night in NYC, dressed to impress in black tie elegance. And if you can’t make it, there’s still a chance to support these efforts by donating directly to the FGAA (we especially encourage donating on November 8th, which is National First-Gen Day).

Let’s Show Our Support

So, if you’re available on November 14th, grab your tickets, dust off your best formalwear, and join us in celebrating resilience and community. Get your tickets now—prices will increase on November 1st: First-Gen Gala Tickets.

And if you’re unable to attend but still want to support FGAA, consider donating to their mission here: Support FGAA.

I hope to see many of you there for this great cause!

Go Gators!
